DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: PSYCHOSOCIAL AND LEGAL PERSPECTIVES July 24, 2021 Domestic violence includes any type of physical, emotional, sexual or financial abuse. It can be perpetrated by your partner, any family member (natal or matrimonial), or a combination thereof. Domestic violence is deeply entrenched and widely prevalent in India. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2019 reports that a majority (30.9%) of all the 4.05 lakh cases under crimes against women are registered under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The section deals with ‚Äėcruelty by husband or his relatives.It is time the to take this offence as a serious issue and recognize it's legal and psycho- social aspects. Department of Social Work K. E College in collaboration with ATMA foundation jointly organizing a Panel Discussion on July 24th at 10 a.m. The program is expected to share to the participants through YouTube live stream. The topic of the discussion is Domestic violence: Psychosocial and Legal perspectives. The main aim is to create the adverse affects of normalizing domestic violence and what are the ways to confront it. It also helps to know the scope of pycho-social aspects of this crime. The inauguration of the program is by Hon. Justice N Nagaresh (High court of Kerala).The panel members are smt. Sailaja Rajkumar (consultat and Psychiatrist), Mr.P. Simon IPS( Former superintendent of police) and Smt.Vidhubala (media person and counselor).The facilitation by Rev. Fr. Dr. Xavier CS CMI (Principal of K. E College Mannanam. The purpose of this online workshop is to create an awareness and network for change.
