Overview

Post graduate department of botany is a prominent educational venture of Kuriakose Elias College. Department is well established with all necessary facilities. We strive to create an academic environment in which professionally creative and socially acceptable values are upheld. Journey started on 7^th October 2014.We are dealing with both the modern and ancient topics of botany. We the teachers of botany enrich the students b the topic wise presentation of  all branches of botany mainly Systematic botany, Environmental studies, Plant physiology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Research methodology etc.

The students are trained to handle sophisticated devices like Electrophoresis unit, UV spectrophotometer, colorimeter, cooling centrifuge etc. They are provided hands on training to monitor ecological parameters like water quality, heavy metal toxicity etc. for pollution assessment. Statistical analysis and practical on statistical software’s is also provided in order to enable the students for interpreting their research findings. Students were also enabled to identify different microbial cultures by proper key. With an objective of scaffolding to entrepreneurship and financial self-sufficiency, different horticultural and nursery management techniques were also familiarized including pest management. Students are enabled for taxonomic identification of algae, fungi, bryophytes, pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms which is a prerequisite of any further research on phytochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacognacy etc.
