WWS

“Walk with a Scholar” is a mentoring program functioning under the “New Initiatives in Higher Education” of the Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala.  Walk With a Scholar (WWS) Programme proposes to arrange specialized mentoring programs for students in Under Graduate Programs in Arts, Science and Commerce and to provide guidance for their higher studies and employment. WWS started in the college from 2014-15 academic year.

The mentoring scheme is purely voluntary in nature. It is open for all students entering the first year of the Under Graduate Programme of study. The selection of students is done on the basis of merit and interest.  The Scheme aims at giving necessary orientation to needy students, to prepare them for employment and give them necessary guidance, motivation and necessary mental support to identify appropriate areas for higher study as well as employment.

For the purpose of mentoring, two categories of mentors are identified: ‘Internal Mentors’ and External Mentors’. Internal Mentors are faculty from the College itself and they are persons who are able to do mentoring and support the scholars and act as a guide in building their career. External Mentors are reputed persons outside the College and from various professions like business, media, law, accounting, engineering etc. Their experience and expertise will help the student to identify a better career option. External mentoring Sessions were arranged on Saturdays and Internal mentoring sessions on working days before and after the class hours and Saturdays without affecting the normal academic routine of the students and the college.
