Introduction

The Department of Social Work since its inception in 2004 has been following a systematic training system giving equal importance to the theory and practice. The focus of the Social Work program is to foster in the students a sense of Social Commitment by providing them professional training and thereby enabling them to address the needs of the marginalized sections of the society. The objectives of the Department are achieved through the Association of Social Workers Elias Mannanam, ASWEM through various outreach programs and activities. Now the Department has completed 17 years successfully, with two specializations in Medical and Psychiatry and Community Development.

The Department of Social Work has been following a systematic training system giving equal importance to theory and practice. It has made a collaborative networking with more than 100 human service organizations within and outside Kerala. The department has been organizing a series of skill training programmes with the wholehearted support of the well known professionals working in a variety of settings

History

K.E. College Mannanam started the MSW course in the year 2004. The department is gifted with an effective leadership of an experienced course coordinator along with a team of sincere and dedicated faculty members. Our attempt to produce qualified hands in the field of social work intervention has been very much appreciated. The department has been following a systematic training with equal importance to theory and practice. The department developed strong network with government departments and NGO’S primarily through the field work training of our social work students. We are in regular contact with agencies working for children, the differently abled, women, rural and urban development projects, industries, medical and psychiatric hospitals. Department has been organizing a series of skill training programmes with the whole hearted support from the well known professionals working in variety of settings.
